Antique Karabakh long Kilim

The Karabakh or Qarabagh Kilims were originated from the lowlands and mountainous regions of Karabakh. These pile-less flatweave rugs have such unique designs and colours, which have made them quite popular with the high price tag. Apart of Kilims, Karabakh Carpets and Jajims are also sought after and considered as very decorative house interiors. The carpet weaving in Karabakh especially developed from the second half of the 19th century, when population of many areas in Karabakh was engaged in carpet weaving, mainly for commercial sale purposes. It is worth mentioning that some of the original antique Karabakh carpets as well as rare Kilims are presently kept on various museums of the world. Today Karabakh Kilims are not widely available in the open market, and because of their rarity ones come to auction create huge excitement amongst both dealers and households.

This room size Karabakh Kilim was sourced from auction house in East England and has a beautiful all over Boteh or Fish design in subtle and naturally dyed colours. It was belonging to the late 19th century but in good overall condition with few areas of stitches commiserated with age. It was an ideal piece to furnish long hallways or large conservatory.

Bought by Zoe Mathews who is a collector of these wonderful pieces, where she wrote to us upon receiving the Kilim.

This was a great transaction - I could see the rug I was buying very clearly on the website - and when the Kilim arrived it was maybe even more charming than I expected.

 I love this Kilim.
